Power System Simulation
TGS' experts are well versed in all aspects of power system studies, with staff recognized internationally
in the various study areas. For the majority of studies, TGS utilizes the commercial transient stability (i.e.
PSS/E and PSLF) and electromagnetic transient analysis (e.g. PSCAD, EMTP-RV) programs. Unique in the
industry, TGS also has access to an RTDS simulator to provide real-time consultation studies. TGS has also
developed numerous in-house applications for small signal analysis including sub-synchronous
resonance (SSR) and network optimization.
The areas were TGS can assist you are:
- HVDC and AC transmission systems
- Transmission and generation feasibility/interconnection studies
- Simulation and study of complex systems involving power electronics. (HVDC (LCC and VSC based systems), SVC, STATCOM, TCSC)

Power Quality Services
TransGrid Solutions (TGS) is pleased to offer Power Quality (PQ) services to cover a wide range of activities to Power Utilities, Alternate Energy Providers and to the Industrial & Commercial customer base.
The term "Power Quality" can be defined as ensuring that the power supply and the electrical equipment connected to it are compatible for each other. With the continued use of solid state technology everywhere, power quality issues continue to play an increasingly important role in the electric energy production, in transmission & distribution and final use by the consumer. This encompasses aspects of safety, performance and reliability of electrical equipment by using dependable, secure and clean electric power.
Power related disturbances can now mean substantial costs in terms of:
- Damage to the utility infrastructure and as well as within the customer facilities
- Increased outage frequency and duration resulting in reduced plant production caused by PQ issues (eg. voltage sags)
- Material waste within a customer facility
- Increased labor costs by the utility and customer to fix PQ events
In order to provide a comprehensive Power Quality services package, TGS have highly trained staff who have worked closely with power utilities, alternate energy providers and large customers in dealing with the utility grid/substation or customer in-plant power quality issues. We are experienced in performing measurements and verifying if required with computer simulation to determine the cause and extent of the PQ problem and provide a range of cost effective solutions.
TGS is pleased to offer the following services:
Field Measurements and Monitoring
- Safely installing PQ recorders and other instrumentation at various site(s) combined with the verification of computer simulations and reporting of data in terms of presentation of the results.
Computer Simulation and Studies
- Development of detailed equivalent circuits of the power system and the custom-power device under consideration for simulation using the PSCAD or EMTP-RV Transients Program. Harmonic Filter design and evaluation of proposed PQ mitigation solutions and devices.
Power Quality Training & Education
- Offering multi-day education sessions and training to various levels of technical staff and mid management to suit the requirements on all aspects of Power Quality.
- Provide guidance regarding the application of PQ standards both national and internationally, preparing of well-defined PQ specifications and documentation as well as the procurement of various types of PQ measuring equipment and their deployment.
